The Miller, the Baker and the Wheel of Good Fortune
Maths Week Scotland - Maths Tales (Primary School Programme P1 - P5)
The Miller, the Baker and the Wheel of Good Fortune
23rd - 27th September
Embark on a mathematical tale of discovery at Almond Valley as the miller, the baker, the farmer and our rare breed animals ready the final preparations for the most anticipated event of the year – the Harvest Festival. Encounter maths in motion with our extraordinary waterwheel powered by the Almond River and unearth maths in nature throughout our rare breed farm and heritage growing areas as you measure, weigh and calculate your way through the ultimate maths challenge.
Challenge your friends, challenge your teachers...challenge yourself!
As part of a teacher-led learning visit, primary pupils can engage individually or in groups as the miller, the baker and the farmer solicit their help in readying for the harvest activity as the growing arc comes to an end. Aimed at Primary 1 – Primary 5, pupils will interact with our waterwheel and museum collection before journeying through the grounds of Almond Valley Heritage Centre as they complete the Trail of Plenty.
Cost: £3.00 per child (Free spaces available for Livingston based primary schools). One accompanying adult free for every seven children, and any additional adult charged at £4.00.
Activity will take approx 1hr 30mins.
