Christmas Holiday Countdown 2023

We’re very excited to announce that our Countdown to the Christmas Holidays is back for 2023! From 1 to 20 December, we'll be sharing daily seasonal maths inspired activities to make the wait until the holidays a little more fun.

You can look forward to a mix of puzzles, art & crafts, and games. The activities are for a mix of ages and most suitable for Early Years to Lower Secondary School, though older children may also enjoy taking part.

Each activity comes with a short video to give you a feel for what to expect, as well as one or more downloads. We suggest that you watch the video together first, with your class or family, then open and/or print off any relevant downloads. Art & craft activities all include step-by-step tutorials to download, and any relevant templates. Puzzles come with puzzle sheets to download, and some of the puzzles have more than one level of difficult to choose from.

We have taken on board the feedback from last year that teachers prefer to be able to plan ahead, so all 20 activities are available to browse on our website from the start. You can also filter them by age group and/or type of activity.

It's up to you whether you want to go through them all at the start and pick the ones that suit you and your class best, or 'uncover' the activities day by day. The entry titles do give a little bit away, but the videos all have a 'cover' to keep the details hidden until you press play.

We will also be sharing the countdown activities on our Twitter and on Facebook channels every morning. If you use Twitter and/ or Facebook and do any of our countdown activities, we would love to hear about and see any photos, so please share and tag us in or use the hashtag #MathsWeekScot!
