About
Maths Week Scotland is a dedicated week of events and activity, with special events throughout the year.
Maths is all around us. We use it in our daily lives when cooking tea, playing sport or deciding whether to go for that impulse purchase. It shapes our society in our voting systems and the way we use data. It underpins the art we view and the music we listen to.
What?
Maths Week Scotland is a dedicated week of events and activity, with special events throughout the year. Maths Week Scotland will take place 19 September - 27 September 2026 for an extended week, to mark our tenth anniversary, with the theme Maths Matters.
You can uncover the maths we take for granted in our lives, and see maths in a whole new light during Maths Week Scotland. Even if you haven't thought about maths since your last lesson at school, there is something for everyone.
“Even if you haven't thought about maths since your last lesson at school, there is something for everyone.”
Events for families, adults and schools take place all across Scotland during Maths Week, and throughout the year. Several are online so you can access them wherever you are. Maths Week Scotland activities are always free, but some venues may still apply their standard admission charges. Take a look at our Events page to find something near you.
Do you have an idea for a great event? We offer funding for organisations to deliver public events for Maths Week Scotland, so if you would like to see something in your area please get in touch with local clubs, museums, libraries, or anywhere else that may be interested and encourage them to apply!

Why?
In 2016 the Making Maths Count advisory group made recommendations in their report to transform Scotland into a maths-positive nation through raising the profile of maths, and encouraging enthusiasm for maths across Scotland. One of these recommendations was to establish an annual week of maths celebration to bring together events across the country with online and hands-on experiences
One year later the first Maths Week Scotland wowed all ages with talks, puzzle rooms and classroom games. It has been growing ever since with more events and ways to be involved.
Who?
National Museums Scotland are funded by the Scottish Government to deliver Maths Week Scotland.
