Finn's Wild Maths Adventure Contest

Join in with our Wild Maths contest for Early Level!

Finn has spotted something wild on his maths adventure! What could it be?

We are encouraging ELC settings and Primary 1 classes to think about what wild maths Finn has spotted outdoors and share their thinking as part of our Early Level Finn’s Wild Maths Adventure contest.

For example, what maths can you discover in your playground, local park, or walk around the neighbourhood such as shapes, patterns, angles, numbers of things, or even a daily weather report. Feel free to include any other maths you can think of.

Dates

Contest Opens: Monday 1 September 2025 at 8am

Contest Closes: Friday 3 October 2025 at 6pm

Who can enter?

We welcome entries from any children in Scotland in Primary 1 or an ELC setting. Judging will be across two age categories:

  • ELC settings
  • Primary 1

Prizes will be awarded within both age categories.

Children are invited to submit an individual entry, or settings can submit a team entry as group, class, or whole establishment. However, please note that prizes are awarded per entry, so in the case of a team entry winning, the team members will need to share the prize.

Home-educated children are also welcome to enter. Please select the category equivalent to your learning level.

How to enter?

Settings can submit their entries in a format that best suits them, this could be as a drawing, collage, photograph, written story or short video.

  • Entries can be in English, Gaelic or BSL.
  • Written entries should be no more than 2 pages long.
  • Video entries should be a maximum of 3 minutes long.

All entries should include elements of 'wild maths' that you have spotted.

PLEASE NOTE: Entries will be displayed on the Maths Week Scotland website and social media channels. By entering the competition you are agreeing to your entry being shared publicly on these sites. Please consider this when including images of children in any photo or video entries!
