Maths at Groam House: Picts, Patterns & Probability

Come and explore the fascinating world of the Picts through maths and puzzles at Groam House Museum! This event is designed for primary school age children and their families.
Children will decode Pictish Ogham inscriptions, design cross-slabs using symmetry and geometric patterns, explore timelines and scale, and test their luck with dice and knucklebones games.
Activities include a six-page activity book, with a historical timeline, quizzes & games, all packed with fun maths covering coding, decoding, counting, patterns, probability and more. A special materials box will be available to support hands-on learning during your visit.
This is a great opportunity to combine history, puzzles and creative design — all while discovering Rosemarkie’s unique Pictish heritage!
Groam House Museum is open daily from 1pm to 4pm (April to October). Entry is by donation. All Maths Week Scotland activities are included in your visit, and will be available throughout September.
