Finn Finity 'Mathscot' revealed

We end the week on a high note, as we reveal our final Finn Finity mathscot!

Earlier this year, we ran a competition, inviting children from across Scotland to design a mascot - or as we like to call it, mathscot - for Maths Week Scotland in response to this year's Maths Tales theme.

William, age 7, from Parsons Green Primary School in Edinburgh, submitted the winning design which he named Finn Finity. The colourful infinity symbol perfectly represents Maths Week Scotland's message that maths is everywhere and part of everyone’s story.

William has been waiting patiently, since the competition closed, for his drawing to be turned in to the actual mathscot, and now the wait is finally over. Scottish Broadcaster Grant Stott did the honours, and presented William with his very own Finn Finity at the National Museum of Scotland. William was over the moon to see his drawing brought to life. The Maths Week Scotland team also have their own Finn Finity, so watch out for more pictures of him as the team takes him on tour!

Every primary school pupil in Scotland is now invited to write their own Maths Tale, featuring Finn Finity. This exciting story-writing competition, in partnership with Read Write Count with The First Minister, encourages young authors in classes P1-7 to create a story incorporating mathematical elements. The competition is also open to home-educated children and families.

You can read the full Finn Finity press release on the National Museums Scotland website.
