Talk for Maths Benchmarks & Stories for Maths
Oxford University Press have been working with Oracy Charity Voice 21 to develop the Talk for Maths benchmarks. These benchmarks aim to support schools in creating talk- rich maths lessons through defining excellent practice and providing top tips and a growing toolkit of support.
Join Louise Pennington, Head of Professional Development at Oxford University Press on 24th September at 4pm where she will look at:
- What exploratory talk looks like in maths, and how talk and stories deepen understanding
- How manipulatives can be used as a tool for talk
- How and when to teach precise vocabulary
- How oracy helps combat maths anxiety and help students confidence grow by harnessing errors
Everyone attending will get a copy of the Benchmarks and a free sample of Stories for Maths, a character driven maths themed programme specifically developed to utilise reading and talk in the teaching of maths concepts.
